- BORDEAUX AQUITAINE -

WORLD HERITAGE

Nestled in its jewel case of vines, situated close to the forest, the ocean and the valleys of the pyrenees. The Aquitaine lives to the rythm of a new century without renouncing its preference for the culture, the gastronomy, the sport, the nature, and in one phrase : l'art de vivre (the art of living)

Bordeaux : situated on the Garonne, prefecture of the Gironde and capital of the Aquitaine region, was listed as World Heritage by UNESCO, for an exceptional urban centre. The old town, situated in the south, is characterized by its narrow winding streets, and its 15th century ancient residences. It is home to a number of churches including the Cathedral St Andre consecrated in 1600.

Bordeaux is in the centre of the largest vineyard of fine wines in the world : more than 120 000 hectares (300 000 acres) of an exceptional value, 57 government certification guaranteeing the quality of a french wine, undulating over the gentle valleys of the Medoc, Libournais, and Entre-deux-Mers. These wines are amongst the most prestigious in the world : Petrus, Yquem, Mouton Rothschild, Cheval Blanc, Haut Brion...

The Arcachon Basin : a lagoon of 155 km² open to the ocean with The Dune du Pyla which varies in hight from around 104m and 2700m long.
This real natural phenomenon is in constant evolution, offering an exceptional panorama on Cap Ferret and the Arcachon basin : in total contrast to the immense pine forests also so characteristic of the Aquitaine.
